Pedestrian Bridges

You can use a pedestrian bridge to walk across a street, highway, or body of water.

The City Agency that maintains what the bridge crosses is usually responsible for the bridge itself.

• The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) manages all of the bridges leading to a park or within a park.
  • Report a problem with a DPR park pedestrian bridge by filing a Park Maintenance Complaint.

• Amtrak, NJ Transit, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) all manage pedestrian bridges over their train tracks. 
  • Report a problem with this type of pedestrian bridge by contacting the Agency in charge of the train track:
    • Amtrak Trains
    • New Jersey Transit
    • MTA:
      • Metro-North Railroad
      • Long Island Rail Road
      • Buses and Subways
      • Staten Island Railway

• The Department of Transportation (DOT) maintains most of the pedestrian bridges that cross a street, highway, or water within New York City.
  • Report a problem with a DOT pedestrian bridge by submitting City Agency or Worker Feedback to DOT.
