What You Can’t Report
The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) doesn’t take complaints about:
- Illegal postings on scaffolding, wood or metal construction fencing, sheds, or barricades
- Flyers, handbills, posters, or signs attached to private buildings
- Posters or flyers that are:
- Put up by government agencies or Community Boards
- Announcing street closures or no parking for filming
What You Need
Your complaint must include:
- The name, address, and phone number on the poster or sticker
- The exact location of the poster or sticker
What Happens Next
If the illegal postings are on public or City-owned property and are accessible, DSNY will remove them. If the agency can identify and find who is responsible, they may give them a violation.
DSNY will not remove stickers from private property – removal is the sole responsibility of the property owner or manager.
