Through the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene arranges nurses to visit low-income, first-time pregnant women and teens. The program provides eligible mothers with prenatal and postnatal medical assistance and parenting education. The NFP also distributes free cribs to qualifying mothers.
To be eligible, you must be:
- Already enrolled in the NFP within the first 28 weeks of your pregnancy
- Pregnant for the first time
- Low-income
NFP’s Targeted Citywide Initiative also serves teens in foster care or under 18 years of age, women and teens in homeless shelters, and women at Rikers Island.
