A water sampling station is a cast iron box with a door on a pedestal. It is about 4.5 feet tall and usually silver. It says "W.S.N.Y. N.Y.C. Drinking Water Sampling Station" on the door. The Department of Environmental Protection uses the stations to test the quality of the City's drinking water.
