As of November 15, 2021, the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) no longer licenses Special Sales and will no longer accept new or renewal applications.
Local Law 80 of 2021 ended the requirement that a business must get a license from DCWP to hold a sale in connection with a stated purpose such as:
- Going Out of Business
- Liquidation
- Alteration, Remodeling, Renovation
- Loss of Lease
- Branch Store Discontinuance or Closing
- Fire, Smoke, or Water Damage
- Creditors Committee Sale
- Reorganization Sale
Businesses must continue to comply with all relevant federal, State, and City laws and rules.
