The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) maintains floating booms and nets containment facilities at certain waterway outfalls to help remove and dispose floatable trash and debris with the use of marine skimmer vessels.
Following heavy rain events, DEP conducts inspections of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) containment facilities. As deemed necessary skimmer boat crews are deployed to collect and transport for disposal floatable trash materials.
In the absence of rain events or during dry weather, containment booms and nets are inspected at least once per week.
