The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) places poisoned bait (rodenticide) in areas around the City to reduce the rodent population. The poisoned bait is used in accordance with State and City law. It is placed in locations where it will not harm the health of the general public, pets, birds, or squirrels.
DOHMH posts signs in English and Spanish to indicate locations where its pest control workers have placed poisoned bait to kill rats. The sign lists the type of bait used and the date applied.
